Transfer News: Barcelona contact Harry Kane over summer move

Barcelona have reportedly established contact with Harry Kane, who would favour a switch to Camp Nou in the summer transfer window.

According to claims by Ian McGarry on the Transfer Window Podcast, as quoted by Daily Express, Harry Kane could be set to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window. The English forward has been approached by Barcelona, among other clubs, over a possible transfer and he is open to a switch to Camp Nou.

Kane has established himself as not just one of the best forwards on show in the Premier League but among the very best in all of Europe since his breakthrough campaign with Tottenham Hotspur in 2013/14. A big reason why Spurs enjoyed a resurgent run, albeit, without any silverware, Kane has been the leading light for the north Londoners for over half a decade now.

The ongoing season has been a sensational one for the 27-year-old, who has 27 goals and 16 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions. However, a recent interview, where he failed to commit his future to Tottenham, has resulted in speculation surrounding Kane to grow like wildfire. And, Barcelona are one of the clubs that are ready to pounce.

Barcelona have been touted to be in the market for a striker this coming summer after they failed to replace Luis Suarez with a natural striker upon his move to Atletico Madrid. Martin Braithwaite is the only such player in Ronald Koeman’s squad, but the Dane is only a squad option; and with Antoine Griezmann’s future at Camp Nou also being up in the air, an attacking reinforcement is imperative.

To that end, it looks like Erling Haaland could be their priority, having already held initial talks to sign him. However, considering the competition for the Norwegian forward, it would be prudent for Barcelona to keep their options open, making Kane a viable target. And, as per Ian McGarry on the Transfer Window Podcast, Barcelona have already contacted Kane.

In fact, the Blaugrana are seemingly his favoured option. McGarry said on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t Daily Express), “It is our information that Kane is seriously considering moving away from Tottenham Hotspur and as a result, other clubs have been in touch with his representatives. We understand that the one that is most attractive at this moment in time is Barcelona.”

There have been suggestions that the time is perhaps, right for Kane to leave Tottenham. However, as is the case with Haaland, the English international is also a target for several other clubs, including Real Madrid and Manchester City. In addition, he will also come with a hefty price tag and it remains to be seen if Barcelona can overcome such obstacles to land Kane this summer.
