Lazio’s attacking midfielder Luis Alberto has reportedly offered his services to reigning Spanish champions Real Madrid ahead of the summer window.
According to a report from Italian publication Calciomercato, Lazio’s Spanish attacking midfielder Luis Alberto has opened the door for a summer transfer to Real Madrid by offering his services to the Merengues.
Having come through the ranks at Spanish club Sevilla, Alberto moved to Lazio in the summer of 2016 after a failed stint in the Premier League with Liverpool. Since arriving in Italy, the 28-year-old has gradually developed into a key cog in the middle of the park for Simone Inzaghi’s men.
Often the creator-in-chief for the Italian capital club, Alberto, along with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Ciro Immobile played an integral role in Lazio reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League after twenty years. So far this term, the Spaniard has played 30 times in all competitions, scoring eight goals and setting up two more.
However, with hopes of playing in Europe’s premier competition for the next season looking bleak, the midfielder could be on his way out at the end of the season. And, as per the report, Real Madrid have been offered a shot at signing him ahead of the summer transfer window by the player himself.
Real Madrid will likely undergo a major squad overhaul this summer as the likes of Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos enter the final phase of their respective careers. With Modric set to turn 36 soon enough and Toni Kroos into his thirties as well, Los Blancos could certainly do with some fresh faces in the middle of the park.
More so, considering the fact that Isco, who has been linked with Serie A champions Juventus, does not have a long-term future at the club under Zinedine Zidane. To that end, a new central midfielder will be at the top of the shopping list for the La Liga champions.
Alberto’s midfield partner at Lazio, Milinkovic-Savic, has been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu. Now, the Spanish international has offered himself to the club as per the aforementioned report, despite having signed a new contract extension till 2025 only last year.
It is not known as to whether Real Madrid will consider a move for the 28-year-old, however. The Merengues are also looking at another Serie A star in the form of Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz. So, it remains to be seen who they opt to sign come the summer transfer window.
