Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Marco Asensio from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, Liverpool have set their sights on Marco Asensio over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Spanish international has a €40 million price tag and could be allowed to leave by Real Madrid.
Asensio joined Real Madrid from Real Mallorca in the summer of 2014 and has since gone on to become a regular fixture for both club and country. The Spaniard has, in fact, not looked back since establishing a foothold in the Merengues’ first-team squad a few years ago and has been touted to be their future for quite some time now.
However, the 25-year-old has been struggling to perform at a consistent level since returning from a long-term injury and that reflects in a paltry return of 4 goals and 2 assists in 34 appearances this term. The player’s stock, though, remains as high as ever, with Liverpool keen on swooping him away from Real Madrid.
Liverpool are in need of bolstering their attack for a second successive summer owing to the uncertain futures that the likes of Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino are facing at Anfield. In addition, Mohamed Salah continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid, and it is not hard to see why the Reds would need to make an attacking addition this coming summer.
To that end, Asensio is a viable target for Liverpool, especially seeing as he would be an obtainable option for Jurgen Klopp, seeing as he could be deemed surplus to requirements by Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane. Apart from Asensio, Paulo Dybala has also been linked with Liverpool, and it is clear that the Reds will prioritise attacking reinforcement.
As for Asensio, PSG are also eager to sign the Spanish international, who is valued by Real Madrid at around €40 million. The price tag is unlikely to be prohibitive for Liverpool or PSG and with that being said, it will be interesting to see if a transfer battle is sparked into life.
For now, it looks like Asensio’s future at Real Madrid is up in the air and with Liverpool keen on signing him, it remains to be seen if his time with the Spanish giants comes to an end this summer.
