Paul Pogba is set to return while Anthony Martial will be in contention to feature when Manchester United face Leicester City in the FA Cup.
Manchester United will be aiming to progress to the FA Cup semi-finals when they lock horns with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday evening. And, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has some pressing injury concerns to cater to ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
While Paul Pogba’s return from injury was well-timed, the Manchester United manager is sweating over the fitness of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani, with the trio set to face late fitness tests to determine their availability against Leicester City. Juan Mata and Phil Jones, though, remain unavailable due to their respective injuries.
Solskjaer did comment on Pogba’s possible involvement in addition to Cavani and Martial during his pre-match press conference. The Manchester United boss said, “We’ll have to see how much he can play. I’m not sure if he can play 90 minutes or if he can start, but you see the impact he can make if he comes on as a sub. If he feels okay, maybe we can start him as well.”
“We haven’t really got to the bottom of it with Edinson. He’s worked really hard and is joining training sessions and towards the end of training sessions when he needs to chop it up and feel 100 per cent ready for the game and he hasn’t really gotten there yet. Not concerned at all. I just want Anthony fit. Same with Paul. We just want them to go and play. They’ve missed too many games.”
Martial is unlikely to make the starting lineup, as are Rashford and Cavani, with Mason Greenwood set to lead the line for Manchester United against Leicester. The aforementioned trio, though, could make an appearance off the bench. Meanwhile, with Greenwood being the central striker, Daniel James becomes a certainty on the right flank, with Pogba coming in on the left-wing.
Bruno Fernandes will reprise his usual no. 10 role, meaning Donny van de Beek misses out. In the midfield double pivot, Nemanja Matic ought to come in for Scott McTominay to pair up alongside Fred. At the back, Alex Telles could replace Luke Shaw, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire retaining their spots; as should Dean Henderson in goal ahead of David de Gea.
Manchester United Predicted XI: Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles; Fred, Matic; James, Fernandes, Pogba; Greenwood
