Liverpool youngster Yasser Larouci is reportedly on the radars of fellow Premier League outfit Leeds United, along with a few EFL Championship clubs.
According to a report from Tribal Football, Liverpool starlet Yasser Larouci is a transfer target for Premier League rivals Leeds United ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
Larouci, 20, made the switch to Liverpool’s youth setup from French outfit Le Havre back in the summer of 2017. Having initially linked with the Reds’ Under-18s, the left-back broke into the reserve team, for whom he has 16 appearances till date.
Larouci even got his first-team debut for the Merseyside giants last season in an FA Cup tie against local rivals Everton, which the Reds won 1-0. He featured once more in the same competition for Liverpool but has not been seen in the first-team picture since.
Indeed, Andrew Robertson has locked down the left-back slot for himself at Liverpool while the Reds also brought in Kostas Tsimikas in the summer to provide depth in the position, meaning Larouci’s chances of getting minutes with the first-team reduced drastically.
With the 20-year-old’s contract set to expire at the end of the current season, Leeds United are now primed to make a move for the youngster. The Whites have had an entertaining return to the top-flight but will need to strengthen their roster if they are to aim for bigger things in the seasons to come.
The lack of a natural left-back in the squad has been a problem for Marcelo Bielsa this season, with the Leeds manager having had to use the likes of Stuart Dallas and Ezgjan Alioski in the position to varying degrees of success. Thus, bringing in a new left-sided full-back should be a top priority for the Yorkshire based outfit next summer.
And Larouci is seen as a viable candidate by the club, with manager Bielsa said to have been impressed by the Liverpool youngster’s pace and athleticism, which should tune in well with the way Leeds play under the enigmatic Argentine.
Apart from Leeds United, EFL Championship leaders Norwich City and fellow promotion hopefuls Brentford also looking at Larouci as a prospective target. But the report adds that Leeds seem to be ahead of the chasing pack to clinch the 20-year-old’s signing as things stand.
Larouci, given that he has hardly featured with the first-team, does not seem to be featuring in Klopp’s plans at Anfield. And with his contract running out, a parting of ways looks the most likely outcome, despite there being question marks over Tsimikas’ future. It, however, remains to be seen if the left-back ends up joining Leeds or a different club.
