Real Madrid are weighing up a summer move for Raphael Guerreiro, who is valued at €30 million by Borussia Dortmund.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid are stepping up their efforts to sign a left-back in the summer transfer window. The reigning La Liga champions have set their sights on Raphael Guerreiro, who is one of three options being considered to replace Marcelo.
Raphael Guerreiro joined Borussia Dortmund from Lorient in the summer of 2016 and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the best full-backs in the game. A key figure for the German giants, the 27-year-old has gone on to amass 145 appearances for BVB, with an impressive tally of 27 goals and 30 assists to show for his efforts.
His progress has surely not gone unnoticed, with a number of big-name clubs in Europe taking note of his talent. The latest claims come in the form of Real Madrid’s interest in the Portuguese international, with the Spanish heavyweights looking to recruit a left-back in the summer transfer window.
For years, Marcelo has been a stalwart for Real Madrid, having been one of the cornerstones of the team that dominated Europe and won a number of other trophies in the decade gone by. However, the Brazilian has endured a sharp decline in the last couple of years and in the ongoing season, he has essentially been a peripheral figure at the club.
While Ferland Mendy has been top class since arriving in the Spanish capital last summer, the Merengues are eager to recruit another defender to compete with the Frenchman. To that end, Real Madrid have drawn up a three-man shortlist to replace Marcelo in the summer transfer window.
One of the players on the list is Guerreiro, with Real Madrid Castilla defender Miguel Gutierrez and Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon also on their radar. As far as Guerreiro is concerned, Borussia Dortmund will demand €30 million in exchange for his services.
In addition, Guerreiro will arrive at the club as a direct rival for Mendy, much like Reguilon, while Gutierrez will likely be the understudy for the Frenchman. What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid are willing to pay the €30 million to land Guerreiro or if they zero in on one of the other two options.
