Liverpool are reportedly assessing the prospects of signing 16-year-old Brazilian prodigy Angelo Gabriel from Santos.
According to an exclusive report by Sport Witness, Liverpool are closely monitoring the progress of Angelo Gabriel. The 16-year-old Brazilian prodigy has a €60 million release clause in his Santos contract, with the Reds considering a possible move for him.
Angelo Gabriel has been a part of Santos since 2015, when he joined their academy as a 10-year-old. He subsequently progressed at an express pace within the youth setup of the Brazilian club before making grade in the first-team squad aged just 15, becoming the second-youngest ever player to debut for the Alvinegro.
Since then, he has continued his remarkable upwards trajectory, making 11 further appearances, while also recently making his debut in the Copa Libertadores. His progress has piqued the interest of one of the biggest clubs in the world, with Liverpool eager to be ahead of the curve in their bid to secure his services.
Liverpool have never been one to shy away from making a swoop for some of the most talented players in the world. And, such an outlook has seen them sign the likes of Kaide Gordon and Calum Scanlon in recent times, while in attack, Harvey Elliott has been the brightest prospect to have not only arrived at the club but also make his first-team debut for the Reds.
Brazilian prodigies have also been on their radar for a long time, with Fluminense wonderkid Kayky briefly linked with a possible big-money switch, although he is now set to join Manchester City. Liverpool had also been eager to sign Rodrygo Goes before losing out to Real Madrid in his pursuit.
However, as far as Gabriel is concerned, the Premier League champions are eager to move quickly and land him before other clubs take note of his talent, although Real Madrid have also been scouting him. Having said that, Gabriel has a €60 million release clause in his Santos contract and it is unclear if Liverpool will be ready to pay such a sum in the times of the coronavirus.
For now, it appears as if Liverpool could be the first club to make a move in pursuit of Angelo Gabriel. It now remains to be seen if the Merseyside outfit trigger the 16-year-old’s €60 million release clause or if they are able to negotiate a lower sum with Santos.
