Manchester United have identified Gianluigi Donnarumma as a potential target as they prepare for life without David de Gea.
According to Fichajes, Manchester United are plotting a summer swoop for Gianluigi Donnarumma. The AC Milan goalkeeper has attracted a lot of attention in the market, especially with his contract at San Siro expiring at the end of the season – making him available as a free agent in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Red Devils, in particular, have shown a desire to secure his services as they prepare for life without David de Gea. The Spanish international has faced widespread criticism in regards to his performances this season, from fans and experts alike, including club legend Roy Keane, who has appeared outspoken about the goalkeeper’s futility.
As for Donnarumma, he has had a lot of success at AC Milan this season, having kept eight clean sheets in 22 matches. The Italian is averaging close to almost three saves per game, with his contributions in between the sticks emerging as a key factor in Milan’s splendid campaign so far.
Apart from his quality in between the sticks, Donnarumma is often hailed for his experience at the highest level of football. At the age of just 21, the goalkeeper has notched up close to 250 competitive appearances for Milan while winning 22 caps for the Italian national team.
It makes the Milan ‘keeper an appealing prospect for big clubs across Europe, especially for United as they look forward to a change of guard in goal. Although the Red Devils already boast the services of the highly talented Dean Henderson, Donnarumma’s experience, coupled with his expiring contract could make him an ideal long-term replacement for de Gea.
However, the Premier League giants could face stiff competition in his pursuit. Reports from England link Chelsea to the Italian, with the Blues likely to part ways with Kepa Arrizabalaga in the summer. The free signing of Donnarumma, in that regard, could prove to be a real bargain for Thomas Tuchel as he continues his Stamford Bridge revolution.

A move to either Manchester United or Chelsea could be an ideal option. He will not only have the chance to earn more but also attract more media attention for his performances, which could really help in his bid to become the best goalkeeper in the world. It now remains to be seen as to which of the two Premier League clubs move for the Italian international.
