Transfer News: Manchester United eyeing Everton starlet Jarrad Branthwaite

Manchester United are monitoring the progress of Everton youngster Jarrad Branthwaite, who has impressed on his loan spell at Blackburn.

According to Daily Mail, Manchester United are among clubs keeping a close eye on Jarrad Branthwaite. The Everton defender, currently on loan at Blackburn Rovers, has impressed the onlookers with his performances in the Championship this term, with the Red Devils open to a summer swoop.

Branthwaite had made his Premier League debut earlier this season against Wolves. However, last month, he was sent out to Blackburn on loan as Carlo Ancelotti wanted him to continue his development with more first-team football. It has proven to be a masterstroke by both parties so far, with the youngster now emerging as one of the rising stars of the Championship so far.

Upon his move to Ewood Park in January, Branthwaite has become a first-team regular at Blackburn, having already notched up seven appearances in the Championship.

Although the Riversiders are currently struggling with four back to back losses in the league, the young defensive combination between on-loan Manchester City starlet Taylor Harwood-Bellis and on-loan Everton starlet Jarrod Branthwaite has attracted a lot of attention, with the duo performing rather well despite the decent run of results.

Premier League 2020/21 mid-season review: Manchester United

Manchester United, as a result, eyeing a potential swoop for Branthwaite this summer as Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer continues his agenda of poaching young British talents.

Under his leadership, players like Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mason Greenwood and Scott McTominay have all enjoyed steady growth. In addition to that, the club has been linked with other British talents like Jadon Sancho and Jamal Musiala.

Branthwaite, in that regard, could become the latest addition to this pool of youngsters looking to make an impact in a Manchester United side that steadily gained prominence due to their core setup as well as the performances in the England top-flight.

Although the Everton youngster may not be an established star like Sancho or even Greenwood, he certainly has the quality to become an asset at United. Especially in the defensive department, it won’t be surprising to see Solskjaer being open to trying out new options following the disastrous and consistent performances of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.

That said, the Toffees are likely to have no intention of offloading Branthwaite to their direct rivals in the summer. Manchester United, though, could try to convince the player into joining Old Trafford and remain patient, with his contract at Goodison Park set to expire at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
