Jurgen Klopp is reportedly pushing Liverpool to sign Vinicius Jr. from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet OK Diario, Liverpool have set their sights on Vinicius Jr. over a possible move in the summer transfer window. Real Madrid are willing to part ways with the Brazilian winger, but will insist on including a buyback clause, similar to the one in Sergio Reguilon’s contract with Tottenham Hotspur.
Vinicius Jr. joined Real Madrid from boyhood club Flamengo in the summer of 2018, becoming one of many young players to make their way to the club as Florentino Perez sought to lay down the foundations for the next generation of superstars donning the famous white jersey. Since then, the youngster has been a regular in the first-team squad, experiencing varying degrees of success.
In the ongoing campaign, the 20-year-old has struggled quite a bit, with just 3 goals and as many assists in 26 appearances across all competitions. His inconsistencies have reportedly left Real Madrid frustrated, with Los Blancos ready to cash in on Vinicius, so as to also help fund a move for priority target Kylian Mbappe. And, Liverpool are hoping to pounce on the situation.
Liverpool have been reported to be in the market for an attacking reinforcement as Jurgen Klopp looks to refresh a squad that has underperformed greatly this season. With Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi failing to impress, the Reds have to look for viable options who can not just replace the duo but also push the first-choice trio, just as Diogo Jota did before his injury.
To that end, Pedro Goncalves is one of the players considered by Liverpool for a possible summer swoop, although his hefty release clause could pose a problem. And, Vinicius Jr. could also be a viable target the Premier League champions, with Klopp in particular eager to swoop him away from Real Madrid.
On their part, Real Madrid are also reciprocating on Liverpool’s interest in the Brazilian and are open to the prospect of letting him leave, as it could potentially help them fund a move for Kylian Mbappe. And, to protect their future interests in the player, Los Blancos would ask for a buyback clause in his contract, just as they did with Sergio Reguilon when he joined Tottenham.
It now remains to be seen if Liverpool do end up heeding Klopp’s wish and land Vinicius, or if the young winger ends up staying put at Real Madrid and fight for his place in the side.
