Transfer News: Liverpool ready to rival Tottenham Hotspur in Milan Skriniar pursuit

Liverpool are reportedly raring for a summer signing and are prepared to compete with Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of Milan Skriniar.

According to a report by Tutto Mercato Web, reigning Premier League champions Liverpool are closely monitoring the development of the Tottenham target Milan Skriniar, as the 25-years-old central defender’s future seems uncertain with his present club Inter Milan.

The Slovak has been one of those significant faces in Antonio Conte’s side in the current campaign, with his indomitable strength and rigid presence aiding Inter Milan’s cause. With 23 appearances under his belt this term, Skriniar has drawn the narrative firmly enough to establish his authority in the Nerazzurri’s colors.

Last season, Skriniar had not been able to settle down due to the presence of Uruguayan centre-back Diego Godin. The 34-year-old came into the squad with his rich reputation and during the course of his tenure, Skriniar struggled to nail down a spot. Now, though, after a decent campaign, interest in the player has resurfaced, with Liverpool and Tottenham interested in him.

Liverpool are thoroughly keeping an eye on the options in the transfer market, as they have struggled to organise their defensive unit throughout the season. Since the plaintive departures of the Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez due to long-term injury concerns, Liverpool have been determined to assemble some promising figures to fill up that vacant space.

To that end, Liverpool did bolster their defence in the January transfer window by signing Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies. Kabak, though, is on loan at Anfield and it is not a given that he will be signed permanently, which is why the interest in Skriniar makes sense. Meanwhile, Tottenham were among the firm favorites to sign him last summer.

The Lilywhites had been seemingly driving their motives forward in search for alterations in defence. Spurs could have pounced on the situation, but Inter Milan rejected their assertion. The continued interest, though, makes sense, considering Toby Alderweireld is on the wrong side of 30 while Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier have blown hot and cold.

Liverpool’s naivety in the backline has been drowning their efforts in vain, and their desperate attempt to change their fortunes can not be questioned due to their recent drastic downfall. Flabbergasted by the recent outcomes, Jurgen Klopp has been eyeing an appalling move to bring Skriniar to Anfield, and it remains to be seen if Liverpool can beat Tottenham to his signature.
