Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on Joan Jordan once again, but face competition from a quartet of Serie A clubs in his pursuit.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Arsenal are once again in pursuit of Joan Jordan, despite previously calling off their interest in the Spaniard. The Sevilla midfielder is also being tailed by Serie A quartet AS Roma, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Napoli, with a summer move likely.
Arsenal’s interest in Jordan makes a great deal of sense, considering Dani Ceballos has struggled to make an impression in his second loan spell at the Emirates. In addition, Mohamed Elneny is only a squad rotation option, while Joe Willock has failed to step up. That leaves Mikel Arteta with just his first-choice central midfield pairing of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka to bank on.
This will breed a dangerous situation for the Arsenal boss, seeing as his squad has already been troubled by a bout of inconsistency for large parts of the ongoing campaign. Therefore, it is imperative for the Gunners to bolster their midfield, especially if Ceballos is not signed on a permanent deal from Real Madrid.
Jordan is, therefore, a viable target for Arsenal, who were initially plotting a January move for the 26-year-old before choosing to call off their interest in him due to Sevilla’s €30 million valuation. The Spaniard, though, could be on the edge at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium following the arrival of Papu Gomez, which has, in turn, alerted a number of other clubs apart from Arsenal too.
The likes of AS Roma, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Napoli are all showing an interest in signing Jordan, meaning Arsenal could be in for a transfer battle for him. Sevilla, on their part, are trying to tie the player down to a new contract, with his current deal set to run out in 2023.
However, if they are unable to reach an agreement with Jordan over a renewal, he could well be on his way out of the club in the summer. For now, it looks like Arsenal, along with a number of Serie A clubs are keen on signing the Spanish midfielder from Sevilla and it remains to be seen if any of the suitors can swoop him away in the summer.
If not, Arsenal, in particular, could well turn their attention towards someone like Julian Draxler, who has been heavily linked with a switch to the Emirates. An intriguing next few months beckon Jordan and his suitors.
