Transfer News: Liverpool, Manchester United handed blow in Jamal Musiala chase

Bayern Munich have moved one step closer towards a new contract extension for Jamal Musiala, who is being courted by Manchester United and Liverpool.

An update from Goal, on the situation of Jamal Musiala, could serve as a major blow for Manchester United and Liverpool. It appears Bayern Munich have stepped up their efforts to tie the youngster down to a new contract, in an attempt to fend off interest from a host of Premier League giants.

The two parties had initially reached an impasse, with Bayern Munich unsure over the player’s hefty £100k a week demands. However, they are now willing to reach a compromise in light of the Englishman’s performances in the Bundesliga this season.

It does not bode well for Manchester United or Liverpool, though, as their search for a new attacker continues. Musiala, in particular, has been linked with a return to England following his breakthrough in the Bundesliga this season.

A former member of the Chelsea youth academy, the Stuttgart born attacker has featured in 13 matches for Bayern Munich in the league this term. He notably became the club’s youngest goalscorer in the Bundesliga during the 8-0 win over Schalke earlier this season and has since proven to be an excellent first-team option for Hansi Flick.

Although Musiala still has a long way to go before he can become an established starter at Bayern, a prolonged stay in Bavaria makes sense given the club’s recent emphasis on youth development. It is a strategy echoed by other clubs as well, including Manchester United, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer especially favouring young British talents coming through the ranks.

Musiala, in that regard, could have been an ideal signing for the Manchester United manager, who is desperate for a new right-sided winger amid the inconsistencies of Mason Greenwood and Daniel James.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are determined to find a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane, in case either of the two leave the club in the near future. The fact that Musiala can also feature in the number ten position would have made him an ideal alternative for the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Unfortunately for Manchester United and Liverpool, it appears Musiala’s future lies in the Bundesliga as Bayern Munich continue to nurture talents like him and Chris Richards. Another youngster potentially making a mark at the Allianz Arena in the near future could be Taylor Booth, who, like Musiala, ought to have a bright future at Bayern.
