Arsenal have reportedly been scouting Tyrick Mitchell, as they look to find a solution to some of their issues in the left-back spot.
According to a report by London Evening Standard, Arsenal have been closely following the progress of Tyrick Mitchell this season. The Gunners are also monitoring the 21-year-old’s contract situation at Crystal Palace, as they look to add a left-back soon.
Tyrick Mitchell joined Crystal Palace in 2016 before subsequently finishing his footballing education at the club three years later. However, it is the ongoing campaign that has ended up being his true breakthrough campaign at Selhurst Park, with the young Englishman impressing with his displays.
So far this season, Mitchell has raked in 12 appearances across all competitions, often stepping in superbly in the absence of Patrick van Aanholt. His progress this season has alerted Arsenal, who are in the market for a left-back and are keeping tabs on his contract situation as well.
Arsenal are intent on signing a left-back sooner rather than later after having allowed Sead Kolasinac to join Schalke on loan this month. The Bosnian’s return to the Bundesliga has meant that Mikel Arteta does not have a natural backup for Kieran Tierney and had to make use of Cedric Soares as a makeshift left-back this week in the FA Cup tie against Southampton.
With that experiment failing spectacularly, it is no wonder that the Arsenal manager wishes to sign a left-back to not just be an able backup for Tierney but also provide competition to the Scotsman. To that end, Mitchell is a viable target for Arsenal, considering that at 21, he can be moulded in the image of Arteta while being a long-term option for the left-back slot.
Apart from Mitchell, Arsenal are also closely following the situation of Ryan Bertrand, who appears to be their priority target for the position. As for Mitchell, the fact that his contract at Crystal Palace also runs out this coming summer means that he could be available on the cheap.
Meanwhile, apart from Arsenal, a number of other Premier League clubs are also keen on signing the 21-year-old from Crystal Palace. It now remains to be seen if Arsenal end up making a move for Mitchell anytime soon or if they push through with a move for Bertrand instead.
