Manchester United are reportedly “very serious” about their interest in Facundo Medina, who could be a subject of an £11 million bid soon.
According to a report by French outlet La Voix du Nord, as relayed by Daily Mail, Manchester United are lining up a bid to sign Facundo Medina. The Premier League heavyweights are seriously considering a move for the 21-year-old Argentine, with an offer worth £11 million in the works.
Medina completed his footballing education with Argentine giants River Plate before joining Talleres in 2018. After 18 months in Cordoba, the 21-year-old joined French outfit RC Lens last summer and has turned out to be a fine addition for the club.
At Stade Bolaert-Delelis, Medina quickly nailed down his spot at the heart of the defence, but has lost his place in recent weeks, having also been bogged down by a knee injury. Till date, the Argentine has turned out 11 times for Lens and has impressed the onlookers enough to attract a few big name clubs in Europe, one of them being Manchester United.
The English giants have been rumoured to be in the market for a centre-back, with a left-footed players being the ideal signing. To that end, the rumours linking Manchester United with Medina emerged recently, with the player being viewed as a possible long-term solution in defence.
Manchester United’s pursuit of a central defender does make sense, considering Victor Lindelof’s recent struggles with a back injury. With Eric Bailly also dealing with his fair share of fitness issues during the course of his stint with the Red Devils, the need to sign a centre-back is understandable, with the Premier League heavyweights also linked with a possible move for Robin Le Normand.
As for Medina, it now looks like Manchester United are set to make a move for the 21-year-old, as per La Void du Nord (h/t Daily Mail). The report suggests that Manchester United are preparing a bid worth £11 million this month, and are hoping to turn Lens’s head by offering to send him back to France on loan for the remainder of the season.
Having said that, it is also claimed that a January exit is unlikely, even if Manchester United offer to send him back to Lens, as he looks to continue his progress at the club. What now remains to be seen is if Manchester United to lodge the £11 million offer for Medina and if they can possibly reach an agreement with Lens over a transfer.
