Transfer News: Manchester United interested in Kouadio Kone

Manchester United are reportedly monitoring the situation of Kouadio Kone, who is also a target for Borussia Monchengladbach and AC Milan.

According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Kouadio Kone is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The 19-year-old Toulouse midfielder is also being courted by other big name clubs in Europe like AC Milan and Borussia Monchengladbach over a possible move in the January transfer window.

Kone has been with Toulouse since 2016 and it is here where he finished his footballing education before breaking into the first-team setup at the club at the back end of the 2018/19 season. Since then, he has made massive strides at Stadium TFC, with Les Violets’ relegation to Ligue 2 only boosting his prospect of regular game-time further.

This season, the 19-year-old has made 17 appearance in the French second division, missing just one game all season so far. However, with his contract having just 18 months left to run out, it looks like Kone is facing an uncertain future at Toulouse, especially with several clubs, including Manchester United, starting to circle.

Manchester United have been reported to be scouring the possibility of signing a midfielder when the summer transfer window opens, with Paul Pogba once again being linked with a possible move away from the club. With Nemanja Matic also on the wrong side of 30, it seems like the Red Devils’ hand could be forced. As a result, a move for Moises Caicedo has emerged as a possibility.

It has even been suggested that Manchester United will make a move for Jack Grealish if they sell Pogba, meaning the Englishman could be a potential replacement option. Kone, to that end, would also present himself as a viable option for the Premier League heavyweights to consider.

The 19-year-old would also fit in the profile of player Manchester United have regularly targeted since the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who looks to mould youngsters in his image. The latest in such a transfer policy has seen them secure the services of Amad Diallo from Atalanta.

However, with Manchester United only casting admiring glances at Kone, it looks like they could be beaten to his signature. While AC Milan have lodged a bid to sign him, the reliable Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Borussia Monchengladbach are now set to swoop him away from Toulouse. So, it seems as if Manchester United might just have to set their sights elsewhere in search of midfield reinforcements.
