Transfer Rumour: Real Madrid offer €10 million-a-year deal to seal David Alaba signing

Real Madrid have reportedly stepped up their efforts to sign David Alaba and have tabled a €10 million-a-year contract to land him in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Real Madrid have made a concrete contract offer to convince David Alaba to join them in the summer transfer window. The Spanish heavyweights are ready to pay the Bayern Munich contract rebel €10 million per year to secure his services.

Alaba’s future has been the subject of intense speculation ever since news emerged that he is at loggerheads with Bayern Munich over the terms of a new deal. By now, it has become amply clear that the 28-year-old is unlikely to put pen to paper on a new deal, despite a hefty €200,000-a-week contract offer by the Bundesliga champions.

So, after over a decade at the club, it now looks like Alaba’s time at the Allianz Arena will reach its end when the curtains fall on the 2020/21 season in May. Naturally, with the player set to become a free agent, a number of top clubs across Europe have been lining up secure his signature. At the head of the queue, though, are Real Madrid.

The interest from Real Madrid is quite interesting, but it does make a great deal of sense. After choosing not to add to his squad in the summer transfer window, Zinedine Zidane has been in need of some refreshing in terms of personnel, all while keeping the levels high.

To that end, Alaba is a viable target, who has been performing at an elite level for several years now. In addition, the fact that he is a proven winner means he will bring a winning mentality to the squad, while his versatility means that with Sergio Ramos and Marcelo both facing uncertain futures at Real Madrid, the Austrian could be a solid solution in defence.

His ability to play as a holding midfielder also means that he could provide some much-needed competition to Casemiro, who has not been afforded a lot of rest in the last couple of seasons. Now, it looks like Real Madrid, who were touted to be considering a January move for the player as well, have made a concrete offer to convince him to join them, offering him a €10 million-a-year deal.

AS suggest that this offer takes Real Madrid a step closer to landing the 28-year-old, who would prefer joining Los Blancos as well. Meanwhile, among other suitors, Manchester United are no longer in pursuit of Alaba and Real Madrid could well have a clear run at him, especially after the €10 million per year contract offer.
