Transfer Rumour: Arsenal keeping tabs on Morgan Sanson

Arsenal are reportedly closely following the situation of Morgan Sanson, who has suitors from the Premier League and has been the subject of an offer as well.

According to a report by French outlet Le 10 Sport, Marseille have received an offer for the transfer of Morgan Sanson in the January transfer window. The suitor comes from the Premier League, where Arsenal among other clubs are keeping track on his situation at Orange Velodrome.

Sanson joined Marseille from Montpellier in January 2017 and has since been a mainstay in the middle of the park for the Ligue 1 outfit. A player with the ability of carrying the ball as well as putting in a crunching tackle, the 26-year-old has impressed a great deal with his versatility.

This term, Sanson has turned out 16 times across all competitions for Marseille, missing just one game when fit and available. However, it appears as if his stint at Orange Velodrome could be about to reach its end, with Marseille not in the pink of health when it comes to their financial situation. And, Arsenal could be ready to pounce.

This is not the first time that Arsenal have been linked with Sanson, who was also courted by the Gunners in the summer transfer window. However, the continued pursuit of the Frenchman does make sense, considering their failure to carry the ball out of the midfield effectively.

To fix this problem, Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Houssem Aouar for a long time, while Dominik Szoboszlai was also identified as a target. However, while Szoboszlai is set to join RB Leipzig, the north Londoners’ pursuit of Aouar has reportedly been called off.

Julian Brandt has been mooted as an alternative, but the versatility that Sanson offers makes him more of a viable target for Arsenal. With Granit Xhaka blowing hot and cold, Sanson could line up as a holding midfielder who can pull the strings from a deep lying position, although he can also be deployed as a no. 8 once Thomas Partey overcomes his fitness troubles.

That he is expected to leave in January if Marseille receive an offer to their liking means that the Gunners have even more of an incentive to make him their winter acquisition. The report does claim that Marseille have had a bid coming their way, although the identity of the suitor has not been revealed.

Meanwhile, the likes of AC Milan, Wolves, Newcastle United and West Ham United, who have previously lodged a formal bid for the player, are all interested in him as well. As for Arsenal, they are simply keeping tabs on his situation and it remains to be seen if they do end up launching the offensive for the French midfielder once the transfer window reopens next month.
