Egyptian footballer Mohamed Aboutrika claims Mohamed Salah is unhappy at Liverpool and a potential exit from Anfield could be on the horizon.
During an interview with Bein Sports, as reported by Daily Mail, Mohamed Aboutrika has dropped a bombshell on Liverpool and the future of Mohamed Salah. The retired Egyptian footballer has claimed that “his brother” Salah is unhappy at Liverpool, with the club potentially preparing to offload him due to financial reasons.
One of the potential reasons behind Salah’s supposed gloom towards the Reds was the Champions League incident when the winger was not given the captain’s armband in the last group game against Midtjylland.
The player did later publicly admit that he was, in fact, disappointed with the decision of Trent Alexander-Arnold being handed the captaincy ahead of him despite the absence of Virgil van Dijk, James Milner and Jordan Henderson.
“I know that Salah is not happy in Liverpool, he told me the reasons why he is not happy but they are secrets and I cannot talk about it in public. One of the reasons that made Salah angry was that he was not the captain against Midtjylland.”, Aboutrika told Bein Sports. The 42-year-old further stated that Liverpool could be plotting his departure, though purely due to financial purposes.
Highly regarded as one of the best wingers on the planet, Salah has been linked with a move away from Anfield on a number of occasions in the past. In fact, the player himself refused to rule out a potential move to Real Madrid or Barcelona during a recent interview with AS.
From a sporting perspective, the 28-year-old has no immediate reason to leave Anfield as Liverpool are still genuine contenders for the Premier League as well as the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup this season, despite a disappointing and rather unfortunate start to the campaign.
However, it won’t be surprising to see the club being forced to offload the Egyptian international in attempts to balance the books. The Reds be further swayed by the recent emergence of Diogo Jota, whose performances have been lauded even by Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand.
Jota’s presence in the team should give Liverpool the incentive to part ways with Salah, although it will, no doubt, create a massive void in the attacking department nonetheless. So it will be interesting to see how the Merseyside giants plan to deal with this transfer saga over the course of the coming months.
