Fred and David de Gea will return while Edinson Cavani is in contention to feature when Manchester United face Leeds United on Sunday.

Manchester United will be eager to continue their charge up the Premier League table when they play hosts to Leeds United at Old Trafford on Sunday evening. And, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been handed a major fitness boost ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

Edinson Cavani has resumed full training this week after completing his recovery from a minor muscle injury. The Uruguayan striker is available to take on Leeds and speaking to MUTV, Solskjaer confirmed that Cavani will be in contention to feature for Manchester United on Sunday, while also providing an update on any possible knock-on effects from the Sheffield United game.

The Manchester United manager said, “Edinson will be available, I think, yeah. He trained this morning so he should be available for the Leeds game. I don’t think we lost anyone [during the win over Sheffield United]. When you win games, the boys never feel the little knocks and bruises too badly.”

Cavani might be eased back into action, meaning Anthony Martial is likely to lead the line for Manchester United against Leeds as well. Any major rotations might be reserved till the midweek cup fixture against Everton. So, the likes of Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford should feature in the Manchester United attack, playing behind Martial.

The same goes for the midfield double pivot, with Paul Pogba, who was sensational against Sheffield United, starting once again. Against Leeds, Fred should accompany Pogba after being rested earlier this week. As a result, the likes of Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek will be options off the bench, like Cavani.

At the back, Luke Shaw is expected to be the only change, with the English international coming in for Alex Telles in the left-back slot. Shaw will have regular defenders Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for company at the back. The final change comes in goal, where David de Gea should replace Dean Henderson, who started in the midweek league game.
