Anthony Martial is set to return, but Edinson Cavani will miss out when Manchester United face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Thursday.

Manchester United will be eager to continue their perfect away record in the Premier League this season when they lock horns with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Thursday. And, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not have any fresh injury concern hampering his preparations ahead of the midweek fixture.

Marcos Rojo is fresh on the sidelines for Manchester United after sustaining a minor calf injury. But, the Argentine does not feature in Solskjaer’s plans anyway, meaning his absence will not hurt much against Sheffield United. The major absentee for the Red Devils, though, is Edinson Cavani.

The veteran Uruguayan striker has resumed training after completing his recovery from a minor issue. However, the game has come too soon for Cavani, with Solskjaer iterating during his pre-match press conference that he will not take risks with players who are struggling with niggling issues.

The Manchester United manager said, “Of course, we’re going into a very, very tight schedule now with six games in less than 16 days. We know we can’t take any risks if there are any niggles. There are a couple of little things that we’re waiting for, to see how they react, before we pick the squad.”

Changes at personnel level might be kept at a minimum after Manchester United received five days’ break between the derby last weekend and game against Sheffield United. Solskjaer, though, might alter his setup, reverting to the 4-2-3-1 formation after making use of the 4-3-1-2 last time out.

In goal, David de Gea remains the undisputed first-choice and should start ahead of ex-Sheffield United loanee Dean Henderson. In front of him, the four-man backline should remain unchanged, meaning Alex Telles misses out again. Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire will pair up at the heart of the Manchester United defence, with Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka being the full-backs.

Up ahead in midfield, the shift in formation means one of Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba will drop despite a solid display by the duo last time out against Manchester City. Pogba, though, should get the nod to partner Fred in the double pivot, with Bruno Fernandes reprising the no. 10 role.

As for attack, Cavani misses out despite rejoining training. Providing an update on the Uruguayan striker, Solskjaer said, “Edinson has done well in his rehab, but we’re still going to make a decision on whether we should risk him. Because it is a risk, it’s a little bit too early. I doubt he’ll be available for me to pick him tomorrow.”

With Cavani unavailable, Anthony Martial will lead the line for Manchester United against Sheffield United. Martial’s return means Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood move out to the flanks, having paired up in the strike partnership last weekend.
