Arsenal’s pursuit of Red Bull Salzburg sensation Dominik Szoboszlai just got a tad bit complicated as Tottenham and RB Leipzig have entered the race for the 20-year-old.
According to a report from Football Insider, Arsenal have been joined by local rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig in the race to sign Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
The 20-year-old Szoboszlai started out at the academy of Videoton in his homeland Hungary before moving to Austria in 2017. After a short stint with FC Liefering, the versatile midfielder was snapped up by Red Bull Salzburg in January 2018, from which point the Hungarian hasn’t looked back.
Szoboszlai enjoyed a dream 2019/20 campaign, plundering 12 goals and 18 assists from 40 games in all competitions. The 20-year-old has started the new season on a similarly strong note, managing a tally of 5 goals and 9 assists from 15 games already.
Szoboszlai has impressed a great deal in the UEFA Champions League as well and his explosion onto the European footballing scenes has not gone unnoticed as Arsenal have been keen on snapping up the 20-year-old for quite some time now.
The lack of creativity has been a major problem for Mikel Arteta’s side this season and someone like the Red Bull Salzburg star, who can score and assist in equal measure, playing from the left wing or as a central attacking midfielder, would certainly help address that issue.
However, they will now have to deal with competition from bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Under Jose Mourinho, the Lilywhites have made a scintillating start to the season and are perched at the top of the Premier League standings.
But, with Dele Alli’s future at the club far from certain after being frozen out of the squad by the Portuguese, it is understandable that Tottenham are looking to add another attacking midfielder to their roster to compete with Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso, who have both had fitness issues so far this term, making Szoboszlai a viable target.

Apart from Tottenham, Arsenal will also have to contend with competition from Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig. The latest entrants into the race for Szoboszlai do seem to have an advantage over the rest of suitors given that Salzburg is their sister club, from where they have signed a number of players like Dayot Upamecano, Konrad Laimer and Hee-chan Hwang in the past.
In addition, it is also claimed that Leipzig would be willing to loan Szoboszlai back to Salzburg after completing his signing in January, which is very much likely to appeal to the Austrian outfit.
As things stand, it seems like the 20-year-old will not be playing for Red Bull Salzburg for much longer. However, it remains to be seen who among Arsenal, Tottenham and RB Leipzig come out on top in the battle to sign the promising Szoboszlai.
