Manchester United have reportedly approached Red Bull Salzburg over the possibility of signing Dominik Szoboszlai in the January window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Todo Fichajes, Dominik Szoboszlai is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Premier League heavyweights are eager to sign the Hungarian midfielder, priced at €30 million, in the January transfer window and have opened discussion with Red Bull Salzburg to that end.
Szoboszlai has progressed leaps and bounds since joining Red Bull Salzburg from FC Liefering in January 2018. In fact, over the past three years or so, the only way has been up for the 20-year-old, who is now a mainstay in attack for the Austrian giants.
After a strong 2019/20 campaign, Szoboszlai has started the current season on a strong note as well with a return of 5 goals and 7 assists in 10 appearances across all competitions. His fine displays have invariably attracted a number of big clubs in Europe, with Premier League outfits taking a particularly keen interest in him. The latest suitor in pursuit of the player are Manchester United.
The interest from Manchester United is a tad bit surprising, considering Marcus Rashford is the first-choice option for the left wing slot, which is primarily where Szoboszlai plays from. However, as the early stages of the season have shown, Rashford can be deployed centrally as well, in which case Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had to call upon the services of Daniel James.
The Welshman has tailed off considerably after a bright start to life as a Manchester United player. In his present form, James brings no value whatsoever to the side and it is unsurprising that he was linked with a summer exit before he decided to stay put at Old Trafford.
If James is back on the transfer list in the coming window(s), Szoboszlai would become a viable target for Manchester United. That the industrious midfielder can also be deployed centrally in the middle of the park potentially makes him an asset, if signed, with his versatility.
So, Manchester United have opened talked with Red Bull Salzburg over a possible January move for the Hungarian international, who has a €30 million price tag. As per the report, the interest comes straight from Solskjaer, who views the Szoboszlai as the perfect fit in his squad.
Salzburg currently have no intention of selling the player, but they would be open to cashing in on him if an enticing offer is presented. What now remains to be seen is if Manchester United are ready to meet Szoboszlai’s €30 million valuation this winter.
