Transfer Rumour: Dominic Calvert-Lewin on Real Madrid radar

Real Madrid are reportedly preparing an offer worth €40 million to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton next summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Todo Fichajes, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is being courted by Real Madrid. The defending La Liga champions have approached Everton over the possibility of signing the English striker, who is currently jointly leading the Premier League Golden Boot race.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin joined Everton from Sheffield United in the summer of 2016. Subsequently, he made gradual progress before establishing himself as a regular in the first-team setup at Goodison Park. The arrival of Carlo Ancelotti, though, has been the catalyst for a transformation in his fortunes.

Now the first-choice striker for Everton, Calvert-Lewin is slowly starting to become a consistent performer and after making a superb start to the season, he currently leads the scoring charts in the Premier League. His progress, though, has attracted one of the who’s who of European football – Real Madrid.

Real Madrid have been a force to be reckoned with under Zinedine Zidane. However, in his second stint as Los Blancos’ manager, the Spanish heavyweights have relied more on their solidity at the back than their prowess in the final third, with Karim Benzema doing the bulk of the scoring.

However, Benzema is on the wrong side of 30, which is exactly why Real Madrid acquired the services of Luka Jovic in the summer of 2019. Jovic, though, has been unable to settle in at the Bernabeu and has consequently seen his future come under a cloud of uncertainty. The Serb was even linked with a move to Manchester United this past summer, before he stayed put.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have been linked with a few strikers as well, even as the Kylian Mbappe rumous intensify; these strikers include Romelu Lukaku. Now, another striker has emerged on their radar, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin now their target.

The report claims that Real Madrid view Calvert-Lewin as potentially the ideal successor to Karim Benzema, with Jovic having a tall task of doing so despite a decent start to the season. As a result, the Merengues have even gone on to contact Everton over the possibility of a move next summer and are plotting a €40 million bid to secure his services.

The report does not mention whether Everton would be willing to accept such an offer, although it does suggest that Real Madrid could accelerate their pursuit of Calvert-Lewin if Jovic was to leave in January. What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid make a concrete offer for the English striker, who has taken the Premier League by storm this season.
