Adama Traore is reportedly willing to look past interest from Barcelona and Liverpool in order to sign a bumper new deal with Wolves.
According to a report by The Sun, Adama Traore looks set to stay put in the Premier League, and specifically at current club Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Spanish international is ready to snub interest from Barcelona and Liverpool to sign a new £100,000-a-week deal with Wolves.
Traore was always touted for big things when he graduated from Barcelona’s fabled La Masia academy many years back. However, the explosive winger failed to make grade in the first-team setup before joining Aston Villa. His time at Villa Park was unspectacular post which he endured another forgetful stint with Middlesbrough. Traore subsequently joined Wolves.
Since making his way to the Molineux, the player has progressed leaps and bounds to become one of the most fearsome quantities in the Premier League. His progress, though, has caught the eye of several bigger clubs as well, chief among them being Liverpool and Barcelona.
Barcelona are in a transitional period following the appointment of Ronald Koeman. The Catalans appear to be in need of bolstering just about every department, with the wings being one such unit as well. Despite the arrival of Trincao and the advent of Ansu Fati, there is a sense that Barcelona could do with another winger, thanks in large part to Ousmane Dembele’s uncertain future.
Dembele was linked with Manchester United and Liverpool this past summer before a move failed to materialise. However, his future at Camp Nou remains uncertain, which explains why Barcelona would go after a winger. As for Liverpool, their interest comes from a different angle.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have set the stage alight during their Liverpool stints. Beyond the duo, there had been a major drop in quality for a long time as far as wingers are concerned. That has since changed after the arrival of Diogo Jota, although with Xherdan Shaqiri linked with an exit a new winger could perhaps be what Liverpool need.
As a result, the interest in ex-Barcelona man Traore made sense. However, the 24-year-old does not appear to be showing any eagerness to join either Barcelona or Liverpool. Instead, he is in favour of staying put at Wolves and is on the verge of signing a new four-year contract.
This deal will double his wages to £100,000-a-week, thereby enabling Wolves to ward off Barcelona and Liverpool. What now remains to be seen is if the two European heavyweights set their sights elsewhere in search of a new winger.
