Sergio Romero is reportedly hoping to end his stint with Manchester United by making a move to the Major League Soccer this month.
According to a report by Daily Mail, disgruntled Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero is still hopeful of ending his time at the club. The Argentine international is eyeing a move to the Major League Soccer, with the transfer window in the USA still open till October 29.
Sergio Romero joined Manchester United from Sampdoria in the summer of 2015, arriving at the club to be David de Gea’s understudy. In the half-a-decade that has passed since, the Argentinean custodian has proven to be a reliable deputy to the Spaniard and is widely regarded as one of the best backup goalkeepers in the world.
Primarily used in cup competitions, Romero has turned out 61 times for Manchester United, with a stellar record to show for his efforts. In these games, the 33-year-old has kept 39 clean sheets while conceding a mere 27 goals – a staggering record by any stretch.
However, despite being a dependable presence between the sticks over the course of his stint with Manchester United, it is clear that Romero’s time at Old Trafford is nearing its expiration date. The Red Devils have seen Dean Henderson return from loan to become the backup to de Gea, with the Englishman also declaring his intentions to become the first-choice goalkeeper.
As a result, Romero has dropped down the pecking order to become the third-choice goalkeeper for the Premier League heavyweights. The Argentine had, therefore, been eager to seal a switch away from Manchester United this past summer, with a plethora of clubs lining up to sign him as well.

As deadline day approached in England, the interest in Romero had not died down, with Everton eyeing a late move for him. However, while the Toffees wanted to sign the veteran goalkeeper on loan, Manchester United were only willing to let him leave if they received a bid for a permanent transfer.
Consequently, a move failed to materialise, with Everton choosing to sign Robin Olsen instead. And Manchester United have since been panned by Romero’s wife Eliana Guercio over the saga. Having said that, Romero is still hopeful of sealing a move away from Old Trafford, with a move to the MLS being eyed.
The report claims that the transfer window in the USA is open till October 29 and the 33-year-old is looking to complete the switch before then. The report, though, does not mention potential suitors and it remains to be seen if any club lines him up for a transfer.
For now, Romero’s future continues to be uncertain, although it will be interesting to see if he gets his desired MLS switch.
