Transfer News: Daniel James set for Manchester United stay

Manchester United are reportedly not interested in parting ways with Daniel James after rejecting several offers by Leeds United.

According to English journalist Simon Stone, Daniel James looks set to stay put at Manchester United despite interest from Leeds United over a late move ahead of Monday’s deadline. Leeds did make desperate offers for loan and permanent deals to the Red Devils, only to receive rejection from their fellow Premier League outfit.

Daniel James joined Manchester United from Swansea City last summer and made a superb start to life at Old Trafford. After scoring on his debut, the Welsh international proved to be handy option for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the first half of the season, when United were struggling with an injury crisis.

However, the 22-year-old has seen his role reduce since the turn of the year, having been reduced to a backup option. With Mason Greenwood now a first-choice option in the Manchester United attack, James’s prospects for the current campaign have not appeared to be promising, as far as regular game-time is concerned.

The player’s position at Old Trafford seemed to have piqued the interest of Leeds United, a club that had attempted to and nearly signed James before he joined Manchester United. The interest in the Welsh winger seemed to make sense as well.

At present, Helder Costa and Jack Harrison are the two first-choice wingers that Marcelo Bielsa banks on more often than not. Beyond the duo, however, the Leeds United manager has very little in way of quality and quantity. As a result, the need to sign a winger is understandable, with James a viable target, seeing as he can play on either flank equally adeptly.

Recent reports had suggested that the newly-promoted Premier League club had made an offer to sign James permanently, something that has been corroborated by Simon Stone. However, the BBC reporter also adds that Manchester United are not interested in parting ways with James.

Stone added that Marcelo Bielsa is an admirer of James, whose work-rate could have helped him endear himself to the Leeds manager. However, Manchester United, who had been touted to be open to selling James to fund a move for Jadon Sancho, seem to be intent on keeping hold of James, and it looks like that is the end of that transfer saga.
