Arsenal are looking to make a last-minute move to sign Omar Rekik, the brother of Hertha Berlin and ex-Manchester City defender Karim Rekik.
According to kicker, Arsenal could be in for a shock move for Omar Rekik. The youngster is the brother of ex-Manchester City and current Hertha Berlin defender Karim Rekik, who is apparently on the verge of a move to Sevilla after falling behind Jordan Torunarigha in the pecking order.
Omar, meanwhile, plays for Hertha Berlin’s U-23 side, with Arsenal now showing keen interest in his services. The player’s family prefers a move to England and in the event of a potential transfer, the 18-year-old will be drafted into Arsenal’s U-23 side.
It doesn’t come as a surprise either as his elder brother, Karim, had also spent the majority of his professional career in England, notably joining Manchester City way back in 2011 before eventually leaving the country in 2015, in favour of a move to Marseille.
Omar, however, will be keen on making a mark in the Premier League – something his brother failed to do during his four years at City. And Arsenal, in that regard, could be an appealing destination given how Mikel Arteta has shaped the side following his appointment at the end of last year.

More importantly, however, it is the Arsenal academy in general that has been booming in recent years, producing top quality first-team stars like Bukayo Saka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Eddie Nketiah in recent years. Being a part of the U-23 setup, therefore, could bode well for Rekik next season.
Standing at 1.86m, Omar shares the same height as his brother and is known for his robust nature of defending. It has served him well in the youth competitions of German football and the 18-year-old did even make three appearances on the bench Hertha’s last three Bundesliga matches during the 2019/20 season.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see whether or not Arsenal will manage to secure the services of this highly-rated defender this summer. He could add to the club’s growing list of options in central defence, although the likes of William Saliba have been linked with a move away from Emirates this week.
