Liverpool have reportedly rejected a £12 million offer by Burnley for Harry Wilson, who are around £3 million short of the asking price.
According to a report by Football Insider, Liverpool have knocked back a bid from Burnley for Harry Wilson. The Clarets had offered £12 million for the Welsh international, who is valued at around £15 million by Liverpool, and are hesitant to shell out the asking price.
Harry Wilson joined the fabled Liverpool academy in 2005 and subsequently made fine progress in the youth setup at the club before breaking into the first-team setup in 2017. Since then, though, the 23-year-old has only made one further appearance for the Reds, who have chosen to send him out on loan in each of the last three seasons.
Last term, Wilson spent the entire campaign at Bournemouth and was one of the bright performers in a sub-par Cherries side. Now back at Anfield, Wilson featured in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup defeat to Arsenal this week, but it is believed that his future is away from the Merseyside club, especially with their being a lack of a clear role in the first-team setup.
The likes of Aston Villa and Leeds United were linked heavily with the Welsh international earlier in the summer transfer window. However, the duo bowed out of the race to sign Wilson from Liverpool , with Villa signing Bertrand Traore while Leeds are hoping to sign Daniel James from Manchester United.
In recent weeks, Burnley emerged as the most heavily linked suitor in pursuit of Wilson, with Sean Dyche hoping to end the club’s slow window on a strong note. The Clarets have a very thin squad, as things stand, and the situation is hardly prudent for a long Premier League campaign.
Dyche presently has just three wide players at his disposal in Dwight McNeil, Robbie Brady and Johann Berg Gudmundsson and it is clear that he could do with another winger. Harry Wilson is, therefore, a viable target for Burnley, with Liverpool reportedly ready to cash in on him as well.
However, the two clubs have reached an impasse over the transfer fee, with Burnley having a £12 million bid rejected by Liverpool. The Reds want £15 million for Wilson, who are reluctant to meet the valuation.
With Liverpool unwilling to budge on their asking price, Burnley could walk away from the deal. To make matters worse for the Premier League champions, time is running out for them to offload the 23-year-old and they could just have to wait till January to part ways with Wilson.
