Manchester United are reportedly still in pursuit of Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish despite closing in on signing Donny van de Beek.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Manchester United are not ending their pursuit of Jack Grealish, even though they are on the verge of signing Donny van de Beek. To that end, the Red Devils have yet again held talks with Aston Villa over the prospect of signing the English midfielder.

Grealish has become one of the most sought-after players in England over the last couple of years, having become Aston Villa’s talisman during this period. Last season, there was no player more influential than the 24-year-old for Villa, as they climbed out of the relegation zone and secure their Premier League status for the upcoming season.

In fact, only Kevin De Bruyne created more chances than Grealish in the Premier League last term, with the player having an impressive tally of 10 goals and 8 assists in 41 outings in all competitions. His remarkable progress has once again piqued the interest of some of the biggest clubs in the world, chief among them being Manchester United.

The continued interest from Manchester United comes as a surprise, seeing as they are on the verge of signing Donny van de Beek this summer. The Dutchman’s arrival means United now have quality backup for all midfield positions, with van de Beek himself capable of playing all three roles.

Indeed, the impending arrival of the 23-year-old should lead to Manchester United ceding their interest in Grealish, as has been reportedly recently. However, if Daily Mail are to be believed, the Red Devils remain interested in Grealish as well, although it is hard to see how he will fit in as a regular.

The fact that they will need to shell out £80 million to sign the English midfielder further makes him a player Manchester United ought not to chase. Nevertheless, United continue to hold talks with Aston Villa for a summer move, with the player seen as an alternative to Jadon Sancho, as per the report.

What now remains to be seen is if Manchester United are actually pushing ahead with a move for Grealish, who could be seen as an addition to wide attacking slots. If not, Grealish might just end up remaining at Villa Park for another year, unless other suitors like Arsenal, Tottenham or AC Milan reignite their chase for him.
