Transfer News: Bundesliga clubs line up for Konstantinos Mavropanos

More than FIVE Bundesliga clubs are reportedly lining up to sign Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos, who is currently on loan at FC Nurnberg.

Goal have reported that Konstantinos Mavropanos is in heavy demand in the Bundesliga after his impressive performances in the second tier for FC Nurnberg. The report states that more than FIVE Bundesliga clubs are interested to bring the Arsenal defender over to the Bundesliga on a permanent basis in the summer.

Mavropanos though, as per the report, prefers to return to Arsenal after the end of his loan stint at Nurnberg and is looking forward to fighting for his place in the first-team come next season. But, the Gunners have an immediate need to generate funds, which could see them be open to the idea of cashing in on the 22-year-old.

Mavropanos joined Arsenal from PAS Giannina in 2018 and has since gone on to appear 7 times for the senior side while representing the Under-23 side 17 times on the pitch.

The Greek defender has made 10 appearances at Nurnberg after joining on loan in January with 3 clean sheets to his name. His performances have garnered a lot of attention in Germany and Bundesliga clubs have taken note of the 22-year-old’s talent.

At Arsenal, Mavropanos does not have an easy road to being among the ones to gain regular first-team minutes, which is essential to his development at this stage of his career. Mikel Arteta already has William Saliba returning for next season but is also looking for another addition in central defence, with Gabriel targeted in order to pair him up with fellow Ligue 1 star Saliba.

Even if David Luiz leaves, as rumoured, it is tough to see Mavropanos being afforded regular game time, which might tip the balance in the favour of a summer exit. Bundesliga has emerged as a breeding ground for many youngsters from the Premier League clubs and Mavropanos could follow suit.

While the 22-year-old is unlikely to command a high fee, Arsenal could do with some infusion of cash, especially if Arteta is not thinking of using Mavropanos heavily within his setup. This looks like a rumour that is waiting for the transfer window to open before it develops into something real.
