Arsenal have set their sights on 23-year-old striker Moussa Dembele, who is being seen as a possible replacement for Alexadre Lacazette.

According to a report by French publication L’Equipe, Arsenal have renewed their interest in Moussa Dembele. The 23-year-old French international is being viewed as a possible replacement for Alexandre Lacazette, who faces an uncertain future ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window.

For long, Dembele has been seen as a player who has the potential to be a game changer for one of the biggest clubs in the world. His stint at Celtic shed light on his incredible abilities and he has only continued to develop further since joining Lyon two years ago.

A regular in attack for Les Gones, Dembele has racked up 88 appearances in two seasons for the French outfit, with 42 goals and 13 assists to show for his efforts. His progress has been duly noted by clubs, with Arsenal also in pursuit of the 23-year-old now.

For all intents and purposes, it looks like Arsenal will need to bolster their attack this summer. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appears to be a gone case, with a departure believed to be a formality. To that end, Arsenal have been linked with a number of strikers, with Odsonne Edouard linked very heavily with the Gunners.

A swap deal involving Mauro Icardi and Aubameyang, who is touted to be likelier to join Inter Milan over other clubs, was also briefly mooted. However, Icardi now looks set to join PSG, with the reliable Fabrizio Romano confirming the news this week.

As a result, it now looks like Dembele has now emerged on the radar of Arsenal, who have shown an interest in the 23-year-old previous as well. But, the Gunners might have to face stiff competition from Chelsea, who reportedly have the first option on the Lyon star.

Interestingly, the report also suggests that Dembele is viewed as a replacement for Alexandre Lacazette and not Aubameyang, which means Arsenal could perhaps be in the market for two attacking additions.

Lacazette has endured a horrible 2019-20 season, with goals coming few and far between. To make matters worse he was recently embroiled in a controversy, landing him in hot water with Arsenal. If Lacazette was to indeed leave, Dembele would be a viable long-term solution for the north London club.

Having said that, Arsenal will only be able to make a move for Dembele if they can manage to cash in on Lacazette. Till then, they remain in talks with the 23-year-old’s entourage and it remains to be seen if a summer transfer can see the light of the day.
