FC Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz as Bundesliga resumes this weekend.

According to Sport 1, Kai Havertz has emerged as the latest target for FC Barcelona. The Bayer Leverkusen star has raised a lot of eyebrows across the globe with his performances in the Bundesliga. As a result, the Spanish giants are now plotting a summer raid as Quique Setien looks to bolster his attacking options.

Havertz is widely regarded as one of the most talented youngsters in world football. Having made his breakthrough a couple of years ago, the attacking midfielder has already established himself as a key component in Peter Bosz’s high-powered offensive system at Bayer Leverkusen.

Especially since the turn of the year, Havertz has been in excellent form. He has scored four goals while registering four assists, helping Die Werkself to six wins in eight matches in the Ruckrunde so far – a run that has helped reignite Leverkusen’s hopes of securing a Champions League place this campaign.

As a matter of fact, no other Bundesliga-based German player has been involved in as many goals as Havertz this year. So, it comes as no surprise as to why the youngster is so highly-rated in world football, with Premier League giants like Liverpool already keen on his services.

Liverpool have enjoyed a stunning 2019-20 campaign, but appear intent on adding to their midfield ranks, especially amid the uncertain future of Naby Keita and Adam Lallana. However, the Reds could now face stiff competition from Barcelona, who will be desperate for reinforcements in the creative department this summer.

Their key man Philippe Coutinho has struggled in his loan spell at Bayern Munich while Ousmane Dembele has missed a chunk of the campaign through injury. Barcelona have also offloaded players like Denis Suarez, Malcom and Carles Perez (on loan).

As a result, the Spanish champions have appeared overly reliant on the services of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann, as far as chance creation is concerned. But, that could change should they manage to secure the services of Havertz this summer.

The German international could be an ideal under Quique Setien’s pragmatic style of play. His dynamism, combined with his willingness to march forward means he can be utilised in the additional midfield slot in the 4-3-3, with Frenkie de Jong moving into the deeper role.

At the same time, however, it is fair to point out that Havertz is going to cost a fortune. In addition, the player himself is keen on staying in Germany and thus prefers a switch to Bayern instead. So it will be interesting to see if they can actually lure the Leverkusen star into Catalonia in the upcoming summer transfer window.

In the meantime, the Spanish giants will be keeping their eyes peeled on Havertz’s performances when Bayer Leverkusen face Werder Bremen on Monday.
