Barcelona are reportedly eyeing a swoop for PSG defender Layvin Kurzawa, as they eye a backup for first-choice left-back Jordi Alba.

According to a report from TransferMarketWeb.com, La Liga champions Barcelona’s search for a solid backup for Jordi Alba has led them to Paris Saint-Germain, with Layvin Kurzawa emerging as a potential target.

Kurzawa has been at PSG for almost five years now, having signed from rivals AS Monaco in 2015. However, the Frenchman has been in and out of the first-team, never quite being able to nail down the left-back slot for himself.

So far in the 2019-20 season, the 27-year-old has featured just 23 times across all competitions, only nine of which have been starts in Ligue 1. He has contributed with a solitary goal and two assists so far.

Kurzawa will be a free agent in the summer, with his contract set to run out and there being no offer of a new deal by PSG. This has alerted quite a few clubs across Europe, with Juventus, Inter Milan, Arsenal all interested in the Frenchman, along with Barcelona.

In Jordi Alba, Barcelona have one of the best left-backs in Europe. But, the Spaniard turned 31 last month and will eventually need to be slowly phased out of the first-team. The Catalans did sign Junior Firpo from Real Betis last summer, but the move hasn’t exactly worked out as the youngster hasn’t made much of an impression.

Recent reports have claimed that Barcelona are looking to offload Firpo next summer. If he does end up leaving, the Blaugrana will need to find someone to fill the void and provide competition to Alba in the squad. And, that’s where Kurzawa enters the picture.

The 27-year-old may not have been a regular in the PSG starting XI of late, but has vast experience at the top level. Moreover, the fact that he will be available for nothing will appeal most to Barcelona, given that they are planning huge outlays to try and sign Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan this summer.

However, the Catalans will have to battle a host of clubs that are all lining up to sign the 13-time capped France international. It remains to be seen if the 27-year-old ends up at Camp Nou come next season or is snapped up by someone else.
