Transfer News: Manchester United in pole position to sign Jadon Sancho

Manchester United are leading the chase to sign Borussia Dortmund superstar Jadon Sancho, who is also targeted by arch-rivals Liverpool.

According to Independent, Manchester United have emerged as the favourite to sign Jadon Sancho this summer. The Borussia Dortmund star could be on his way out of Signal Iduna Park in the summer, and the club’s hierarchy believe that Old Trafford is the likely destination.

Dortmund are actually willing to let go of their prized asset, as the report suggests. The player too is keen on moving to the Premier League, but competition could be immense with Liverpool and Chelsea also monitoring the situation of the English international.

Chelsea, in particular, are keen on signing a new winger in the summer as they look to begin their squad overhaul under Frank Lampard. The Blues have recently been linked with another Bundesliga star in Leon Bailey.

Coming back to Manchester United, Sancho is a tailor-made fit for the Red Devils for multiple reasons, and the obvious one is his tremendous success at Borussia Dortmund.

This season, in particular, Sancho has emerged as one of the best performing attackers in Europe. In fact, he has been involved in 30 goals in the Bundesliga – more than any other player in the German top-flight so far. His exploits in the final third have helped Dortmund put up a strong challenge for the league title.

Sancho also won Bundesliga’s Player of the Month award for February as he starred in Dortmund’s win over Eintracht Frankfurt, Werder Bremen and SC Freiburg.

Following the absence of club captain and star man, Marco Reus, the Englishman has been able to step up to the plate and emerge as the weapon-in-chief as for the Bundesliga giants, which says a lot about his credibility. And this is why Sancho could be a good investment for United.

The 20-year-old could fill in the gap left by Alexis Sanchez, who joined Inter Milan on loan last summer. His pace and trickery on the flanks could combine well with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Daniel James, thus ushering in the blueprint of a new-look Man United attack.

This brings us to our next point regarding Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian manager of Manchester United is keen on building his team around young, talented British footballers. He has already signed players like James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Sancho, in that regard, fits the bill perfectly. At the age of 20, he has time on his side and could prove himself as a vital asset for the Red Devils in years to come.

But, as mentioned earlier, the Premier League are set to face stiff competition, and with that in mind, it will be interesting to see how this transfer saga takes shape in the coming months.
