Transfer Rumour: Bayern Munich interested in re-signing Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos

Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in re-signing Toni Kroos from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Diario Madridista, Bayern Munich are lining up a move to bring Toni Kroos back to the Allianz Arena in the summer transfer window. The German midfielder is contracted to Real Madrid till June 2023 and is not considering a departure just yet.

Kroos joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014 and has since gone on to become one of the best midfielders in the world. Part of the legendary Real Madrid side that dominated the Champions League for three seasons in a row, Kroos played an important role in the club’s European supremacy.

Now inching closer to 300 appearances for Los Blancos, the 30-year-old is one of the senior statesmen at the Bernabeu and has been at his resurgent best after a lull in the 2018-19 season. However, Bayern Munich plan to swoop the German international away from Real Madrid in the summer.

Bayern Munich have one of the most impressive midfield units on paper, especially following Joshua Kimmich’s transformation into a defensive midfielder. However, Corentin Tolisso has been linked with a move away from the club in the summer transfer window.

It has also been reported that the Bundesliga champions will not sign Philippe Coutinho on a permanent deal once his loan spell ends in the summer. In such a scenario, bolstering midfield becomes an important decision for Bayern Munich, which explains why they might have turned their attention towards Real Madrid stalwart Kroos.

In fact, as reported by Diario Madridista, Spanish transfer expert Eduardo Inda has claimed that Bayern Munich have established and intensified contacts with Kroos over a possible summer move. The 30-year-old, though, has no intention of leaving Real Madrid just yet.

Having said that, Inda also added that Kroos does not completely rule out a return to his former club in the wake of being an unused substitute in Real Madrid’s 2-1 loss to Manchester City a couple of weeks ago.

Kroos, though, still has over three years remaining on his contract with Real Madrid after penning a four-year deal with Los Blancos last year. With manager Zinedine Zidane unlikely to be open to the idea of letting, the Merengues could point towards his €500 million release clause, thereby ending any chances of a summer departure.

Meanwhile, the likes of Manchester United and PSG could also provide competition to Bayern Munich in the race to sign Kroos. However, as things stand, there is little chance of a summer exit from Real Madrid seeing the light of the day.
