Transfer Rumour: Manchester United eyeing summer raid on Norwich City for Todd Cantwell and Max Aarons

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a summer raid on Norwich City for young duo Max Aarons and Todd Cantwell.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Norwich City duo Max Aarons and Todd Cantwell are subjects of interest from Manchester United. The Premier League heavyweights intend to make a double swoop for the youngsters in the summer transfer window.

Norwich City have been one of the most mercurial sides in the Premier League this season. Having returned from the Championship, the Canaries have dazzled a lot, but have also seen their defensive deficiencies be the chief reason for their status as the bottom feeders of the division.

Nevertheless, two youngsters who have been the mainstays in Daniel Farke’s side have impressed to no end. Max Aarons and Todd Cantwell have missed just two Premier League games between them and their stellar showings have unsurprisingly caught the eye. Manchester United have shown an interest in signing the duo.

The interest in Max Aarons in particular is not new. In fact, Manchester United were heavily linked with the 20-year-old last year as well before they ended up securing the services of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Wan-Bissaka has been impressive in his maiden season with Manchester United, but has lacked the traits required to make an impact in the final third. Diogo Dalot is the yin to Wan-Bissaka’s yang, but has been a bit-part player under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, with no rumours of an impending exit for Dalot, the continued interest in Aarons comes as a bit of a surprise, although Aarons could perhaps, be an option for the left-back slot. Cantwell, on the other hand, is a player who Manchester United could do with.

The 21-year-old has been in fine form in what has been his first Premier League season and has been one of the best young players in the top-flight. Capable of playing across the attacking midfield line, Cantwell could add to Solskjaer’s options in the final third, which currently appear to be lightweight, at least as far as quality is concerned.

Having already proven his credentials in the Premier League, Cantwell might not take long to acclimatise to his new club and might as well end up becoming the next Daniel James. The Norwich star is, therefore, a viable target for Manchester United.

For now, the interest in the duo does not appear to be all that serious, but with Norwich appearing set to drop straight back down to the Championship, Manchester United might find it easy to swoop them away to Old Trafford.

Both Cantwell and Aarons are on long-term deals with Norwich, meaning a sizable transfer fee might be required to secure their services. For now, it looks as if Manchester United are showing an interest in the two young stars and it remains to be seen if a double summer move sees the light of the day.
