Bayern Munich have reportedly set their sights on Roberto Firmino and are ready to come up with a sensational £75 million bid in the summer.
After yet another successful season, Liverpool will certainly face a lot of competition in keeping hold of their star players in the summer. And according to The Sun, Bayern Munich have already made a plan to lure one of their key attackers, in the shape of Roberto Firmino.
The Brazilian has been identified as the ideal candidate to lead the Bayern attack next season, and the Bavarians are reportedly ready to offer £75 million when the transfer window reopens in the summer. It is believed that the club is keen to pair Firmino up with Leroy Sane, who was a major transfer target last summer.
The German attacker has had a miserable season, however – one that has been marred by a knee injury that has kept him on the sidelines throughout the campaign so far. He did, although, return to full training earlier this year and is once again expected to become a prime target for the Bundesliga giants in the summer.
That being said, Bayern’s efforts to sign Firmino is rather confusing given the fact that they already have a world-class forward in Robert Lewandowski. The Polish international is quite easily one of the best strikers the club has ever had, and despite being 31, he shows no sign of deterioration whatsoever.
One may argue that Firmino is no genuine goal-scoring centre-forward, meaning he could be utilised in a different role. But, in that sense, the Bavarians already have the likes of Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry while Thomas Muller has enjoyed an amazing resurgence under current head coach Hansi Flick.
Realistically, however, Firmino’s potential move to Allianz Arena could be possible next summer if Liverpool do manage to get their hands on Timo Werner. The RB Leipzig forward has been linked with a move to Anfield for quite some time now. And having enjoyed unrivalled success in the Bundesliga, the German international could potentially spark a bidding war in the summer.
The addition of Werner could actually make a lot of sense for Liverpool. The RB Leipzig star is a prolific goalscorer, who is also quite effective in the first-line of press. Moreover, he is quite versatile too as he can be deployed in a wide attacking role – arguably making him an upgrade over his Brazilian counterpart.
Nonetheless, Bayern’s quest to sign Firmino seems quite ambitious. But, if successful, it could force Liverpool to become a bit more active in the transfer market, which would surely excite the Kop.
