Transfer News: Liverpool poised to sell Harry Wilson in the summer

Liverpool are reportedly preparing a summer exit for Harry Wilson, who is valued at around £30 million.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are growing seemingly keen on offloading Harry Wilson when the transfer market reopens in the summer. The Reds hold the winger at high esteem, but they don’t see him as a long-term option for the club.

Wilson is valued at around £30 million by Liverpool, who are desperate to bolster their attacking department in the summer by signing a new forward. The winger’s current contract, meanwhile, expires in 2023.

The winger was linked with a permanent move away from Anfield last summer, with Bournemouth, in particular, ready to splash £25 million on the attacker. However, the Cherries ended up signing him on a season-long loan deal that expires at the end of the season.

Wilson has enjoyed a decent time at Bournemouth so far, notching up 22 Premier League appearances and scoring six goals. With star player David Brooks still yet to play a single game due to an ankle injury, the Welshman’s scoring prowess has been critical for Eddie Howe’s men this season.

But, at the same time, all six of Wilson’s goals have been scored in the first half of the season. He is, in fact, yet to score or assist a single goal since the turn of the year. And with Brooks nearing his return to full fitness, it remains to be seen whether or not the 22-year-old will be able to rediscover his scoring form this season.

As for Liverpool, they are unlikely to be fazed by Wilson’s potential departure in the summer. The Reds are unlikely to lose any of their revered front trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane next season.

As a matter of fact, the European champions have actually brought in Takumi Minamino from RB Salzburg in the January transfer window. The Japanese international has a lot of potential and is a definite upgrade over Xherdan Shaqiri.

In fairness, Wilson’s potential departure from Anfield could help Liverpool fund a move for a more quality attacker in the summer. They have been linked with a move for RB Leipzig sensation Timo Werner during the course of this campaign. The German international reportedly has a cheap release clause as well, making him a likely target for the Reds in the summer.

Moreover, it is also fair to point out the success that Liverpool’s young brigade has had this season. Indeed, the likes of Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott have both made an impact in the cup games so far, and they are both likely to earn a more prominent role in the first-team, in the event of Wilson’s departure from Anfield next season.

Either way, these are exciting times for Liverpool. Even though the Premier League title is firmly in their grip, it will be interesting to see how the Merseyside giants fare in the market this summer, knowing they would have to maintain their fierce competition in the Premier League for the coming years.
