Barcelona are reportedly considering a late €20 million swoop for 20-year-old rising Portuguese star Trincao in order to bolster their attack.
According to a report by Portuguese outlet Record, Trincao is a surprise name to have emerged on the radar of Barcelona. The La Liga champions are weighing up a late move for the 20-year-old Portuguese forward and are formalising a €20 million bid to land him.
Trincao is a player who has generated a lot of buzz in his homeland Portugal due to his explosive style of play, even drawing comparisons with the most famous player to have emerged from the country Cristiano Ronaldo. The talented youngster progressed through the ranks at SC Braga before making grade in the senior side last season.
However, his only appearances came off the bench and it is the current term that has become the true breakthrough season for the 20-year-old. Trincao has already turned out 22 times for Braga this season, with a decent haul of 3 goals and 6 assists to show for his efforts. His exploits seem to have caught the eye at Barcelona, who are considering a winter move for him.
Barcelona are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements owing to Luis Suarez’s long-term layoff after undergoing knee surgery. There are chances Suarez may not play again this season, which is a concern for the Blaugrana.
With Carles Perez linked with an exit and Ousmane Dembele struggling with injuries, the need to add to the attacking numbers is imperative for Barcelona, seeing as the only other forwards at the disposal of Quique Setien are Antoine Griezmann, Ansu Fati and captain Lionel Messi.
To that end, Barcelona have been linked with a move for Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno, although the transfer seems to have been put off. Dusan Tadic has been considered as an alternative, with Trincao now emerging as a possible target for the Catalan giants.
A last-ditch move for Willian has also been mooted, but Trincao could be a more long-term acquisition for Barcelona. In fact, if the report is to be believed, Barcelona are serious with their interest in the 20-year-old and are formalising a €20 million bid to secure his services.
With less than 48 hours remaining for the January transfer window to slam shut, Barcelona will need to move quickly in their bid to bolster their attack. Trincao, Willian and Dusan Tadic all appear to be targets for the Blaugrana and it remains to be seen who, if anyone, makes the move to Camp Nou.
