Transfer News: Manchester United inch closer to Bruno Fernandes capture

Manchester United have reportedly inched closer to securing a deal for Bruno Fernandes, who could make his £55 million switch to Old Trafford this week.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Bruno Fernandes is on the verge of joining Manchester United. The Premier League heavyweights have made a breakthrough in their pursuit of the Portuguese international, who could make a £55 million switch to Old Trafford by the end of this week.

Bruno Fernandes has been one of the hottest properties in the transfer market ever since he enjoyed a sensational campaign with Sporting Lisbon last term. The summer transfer window that followed saw him being heavily linked with a bevy of big name clubs across Europe.

Manchester United, in particular, were believed to be hotly pursuing a deal for the 25-year-old, but were unable to push through a deal as the window slammed shut. The player has only continued to flourish since then, with 15 goals and 14 assists in 27 outings this season. His good form so far has ensured that the links with Manchester United have not disappeared.

Manchester United are in serious need of goals more than ever after news emerged that Marcus Rashford is set to be on the sidelines for the foreseeable future. With their top scorer out injured, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood remain the only reliable scorers for the Red Devils.

On top of that, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield resources wear a depleted look as well, meaning Bruno Fernandes is a viable target for Manchester United to pursue. A player of the Portuguese international’s qualities would fit perfectly in the no. 10 role in the 4-2-3-1 formation that Solskjaer uses.

However, recent reports had suggested that Manchester United were far apart in their valuation of the player, as compared to Sporting Lisbon’s pricing of their club captain. That does not seem to be the case anymore, though, with a breakthrough being made in the transfer saga.

Sporting initially wanted £60 million for Fernandes, a fee which included a £51 million upfront payment, with £8.5 million in add-ons. A compromise has now been reached as per the report, with the final fee being £55 million. This valuation includes £46.78 million initial remittance, with the remaining sum being add-ons.

Furthermore, Daily Mirror add that the deal should be completed by the end of this week. It now remains to be seen if this long drawn out transfer saga finally reaches its end, with Bruno Fernandes joining Manchester United in a £55 million move.
