Real Madrid are rumoured to be closing in on Portuguese international Bruno Fernandes, if Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade is to be believed.

In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Daniele Prade has dropped a major bombshell about Bruno Fernandes. The Fiorentina sporting director has made explosive claims that the Portuguese international is on his way to Real Madrid, who have been tipped to complete a €70 million move for him.

It has been a summer that has been dominated by a myriad of transfer sagas. Bruno Fernandes is one such player who has been mired in a transfer saga, pretty much all summer long. For much of the British transfer window, the Portuguese international was touted to be on his way to Manchester United, who later pulled the plug on a deal for him.

Tottenham were also reportedly in the market for the 24-year-old, who has claimed in an interview with GQ Portugal this week that he had agreed a deal to join the North Londoners before Sporting Lisbon blocked a move. But, it now appears as if Fernandes is set to join Real Madrid.

Speaking with Corriere dello Sport following the unveiling of the club’s latest summer acquisition Dalbert, Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade has let it slip that the Portuguese international is going to sign for Real Madrid.

Prade claimed that La Viola had been keen on signing Raphinha to conclude their summer spending, but had to back out due to Fernandes’s move to Real Madrid. “Sporting could be finished in the market because Bruno Fernandes will go to Real Madrid €70 million.”, he said.

Real Madrid do seem to be in the need for at least one midfield reinforcement in the wake of an injury crisis at the Bernabeu. Having loaned out Dani Ceballos to Arsenal in addition to selling Marcos Llorente and Mateo Kovacic, Zinedine Zidane does not have much in way of midfield options beyond the first-choice trio of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro.

Federico Valverde and Isco are handy backups, while James Rodriguez is at Zidane’s disposal as well. But, with Isco and James out injured, the Real Madrid boss is now down to his bare bones in midfield. While Paul Pogba, Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek have all been heavily linked with Los Blancos, none of the players are likely to make their way to the Bernabeu this summer.

Therefore, if the links with Bruno Fernandes are indeed true, the Portuguese international is a viable target for Real Madrid to pursue. The Merengues have previously been linked with the 24-year-old, but only briefly so. However, if Prade is to be believed, the player is now on his way to the Spanish capital in a €70 million deal.

It now remains to be seen if the interest in Bruno Fernandes indeed turns out to be true and if so, it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid can complete the deal for him. The Portuguese international could be the solution they seek to be more potent – he had 32 goals and 18 assists in 53 appearances last season. The coming hours will tell the truth.
