Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Real Madrid new boy Luka Jovic on a season-long loan deal.
As per a report from French outlet Soccerlink, Ligue 1 champions PSG are hoping to recruit Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic on loan for the 2019-20 season and have opened talks with the La Liga giants in order to make the deal happen.
Jovic has become a household name after his exploits with Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt in the previous season. The Serbian centre-forward plundered 27 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions, while assisting seven more, helping his side to a seventh-placed finish in the league and a semi-final run in the Europa League.
Following his excellent campaign with Eintracht Frankfurt, Jovic was snapped up by Real Madrid this summer in a deal worth €60 million. The 21-year-old signed a six-year contract with Los Blancos, who were in desperate need of attacking reinforcements after a disappointing campaign last time out.
However, reports have emerged in recent weeks that Real Madrid are open to loaning out the Serbian international just months after splashing big bucks on him. Jovic did not have the best of pre-seasons, with an injury hampering his preparations. With manager Zinedine Zidane seemingly not impressed with the Serb, it was claimed that Real could loan him out for the season.
While Jovic has rubbished those claims, the fact that he has played just 30 minutes across Real Madrid’s two league games so far, without scoring or assisting, hints that he is yet to win over the manager’s trust. And PSG are hoping to capitalise on the situation by taking the young striker on loan for the rest of the season.
PSG have been hit with an injury crisis in attack with star forwards Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe both picking up injuries since the start of the 2019-20 season. Add to it, the fact that Brazilian international Neymar is closing in on a return to Barcelona would mean Les Parisiens will want to reinforce their attack before the transfer window closes.
The report from Soccerlink claims that PSG were initially interested in signing Juventus forward Mario Mandzukic, but after having been rejected by the Croatian forward they have turned their attention towards Real Madrid new boy Jovic.
PSG are currently in talks with Real Madrid for the signing of goalkeeper Keylor Navas and are hoping to convince them to part with Jovic for the rest of the season as well. However, given that the Merengues lack a proper backup for Karim Benzema apart from Jovic, they are unlikely to offload him, meaning PSG’s pursuit of the Serb is poised to fail.
