Transfer Rumour: Takefusa Kubo set for Real Mallorca loan switch

Real Madrid wonderkid Takefusa Kubo is reportedly set for a season-long loan switch to fellow La Liga club Real Mallorca.

According to claims made by reputed Spanish journalist Jose Luis Sanchez on Jugones, Takefusa Kubo is set to leave Real Madrid on a temporary basis. The Japanese wonderkid is poised to join newly promoted La Liga club Real Mallorca for the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

Takefusa Kubo first rose to prominence when he was forced to leave Barcelona after a four-year spell at La Masia due to sanctions imposed on the La Liga champions in 2015 for signing underage players illegally. Kubo subsequently joined FC Tokyo and became the youngest-ever goalscorer in J-League history at the age of 15 years and 10 months.

After dazzling in his homeland, the Japanese wonderkid once again became eligible be signed by a European club when he turned 18 in June. And, unsurprisingly, there were a lot of top outfits keen on signing the ‘Japanese Messi’, before Real Madrid finally won the race to sign him.

Kubo’s capture has been in line with Florentino Perez’s policy of snapping up young prodigies before grooming them to become world beaters at the club. Like fellow foreign imports Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes, Kubo too has been primed for big things at Real Madrid, although he has been touted to first join the Castilla side, just like the aforementioned Brazilian duo.

But, after leaving an indelible mark during Real Madrid’s pre-season campaign, the teenage wonderkid has drawn praises from all quarters, including Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta. Subsequently, it has reportedly been deemed by Real Madrid that a loan move to a top-flight club will do his progress a world of good.

Real Valladolid were heavily linked with the 18-year-old, but if suggestions by the reliable Jose Luis Sanchez is to be believed, Kubo is not interested in making the switch to the Jose Zorrilla Stadium. Instead, he is set to join newly promoted La Liga club Real Mallorca on a season-long loan deal.

At Son Moix, Vicente Moreno prefers the 4-4-2 formation, wherein he had to field Lago Junior, a winger out of position in the strike partnership in his side’s season opening game against SD Eibar. Kubo, who is primarily adept at playing in central areas, is thus, a viable target to pursue for Real Mallorca.

Takefusa Kubo is set to take a route that has not exactly yielded the best of results for Real Madrid prospects, as seen by the examples of Marcos Llorente and Martin Odegaard. It now remains to be seen if the Japanese wonderkid can flourish at Real Mallorca, and if so, that paves the path for him to become a regular in the first-team setup at the Bernabeu in the future.
