Liverpool are reportedly plotting a late move to beat the British transfer window deadline for Bordeaux star Francois Kamano.
Liverpool have not made any first-team worthy signings to date in the current transfer window. But, that may change, with The Sun claiming that the Reds are plotting a late swoop for Bordeaux forward Francois Kamano in order to strengthen the depth in attack.
Jurgen Klopp is reportedly intent on adding an attacker to the squad, which saw Liverpool being linked with Nicolas Pepe before the Ivorian opted to join Arsenal. The decision was a bit straight-forward, with Liverpool not able to promise regular starts to Pepe.
But, the void remains, especially after Daniel Sturridge’s release. Divock Origi has won over Klopp with his heroics in the Champions League. Xherdan Shaqiri has shown sparks when given a chance, especially in the Premier League. But, Klopp needs another quality attacker to complete a second-choice trio that will aid Liverpool’s mission to compete on all fronts.
François Kamano has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the media. He is a highly versatile player having started as a right wing-back, right midfield, left midfielder, central attacking midfielder, on both wings and all across the forward line. Francois Kamano moved to Bordeaux from Bastia in 2016 and has since been on a steady rise, both in terms of performances and return. The 2018-19 campaign was his first Ligue 1 campaign wherein he touched double figures for goals, finishing the season with 10 goals and an assist.
Kamano can play all the attacking positions in a 4-3-3, which will particularly appeal to Klopp. Another reason behind Kamano’s pursuit could be that the 23-year-old is primarily a left winger, which will complete the second-choice trio, with Xherdan Shaqiri as the right winger and Divock Origi as the centre-forward.
As per the report, Klopp wants Kamano to feature in the Champions League so as to rest the key stars whenever needed in an attempt to focus on winning the elusive Premier League title. Kamano will not cost a lot, with a £20 million price tag slapped to boot by Bordeaux.
The 23-year-old though, will reportedly only cost Liverpool £15 million upfront, if they were to move for the attacker, with the rest of the asking price to be covered in add-ons and bonuses.
Anfield has seen two attackers from the African continent become powerhouses and icons, almost. Perhaps, Kamano could be in line to join the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
