Manchester United have been tipped to complete a £70 million deal for Bruno Fernandes, who is also a Tottenham target, after the Portugal Super Cup.

According to renowned Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Manchester United are on the verge of signing Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese international, who is valued at £70 million by Sporting Lisbon, is also the subject of interest from Tottenham, although Spurs are set to lose out to their Premier League rivals for the midfielder.

Bruno Fernandes has become one of the hottest properties in the transfer market on the back of a scintillating season that saw him be one of the most prolific players in all of Europe. A return of 32 goals and 18 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions has well and truly shined the spotlight on him.

As a result, the Portugal international has been heavily linked with a number of top European clubs this summer. But, for the most part, Manchester United have been a constant in the race to sign Fernandes this summer, with Tottenham re-emerging as possible suitors lately.

For Manchester United, it is a simple case of adding goals and creativity to a side that is in serious need of both in the final third. With their top scorer over the course of the last two seasons combined, Romelu Lukaku, set to call it quits this summer, the responsibility of finding the back of the net is going to largely fall on Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

As a result, adding a prolific customer like Fernandes should be a step in the right direction. Add to it the creativity he brings to the plate and the 24-year-old brings to the plate, means a lot of burden should be eased off Paul Pogba. As a result, Fernandes is the ideal candidate to slot into the hole in the 4-2-3-1 formation that Manchester United boss has been employing in pre-season.

But, Manchester United are reportedly facing stiff competition from Tottenham, as per recent reports, with Spurs in the market for a possible replacement for Christian Eriksen. The Dane is in the final year of his deal with the North Londoners and chances are, he could depart this summer.

Fernandes is thus, an ideal replacement for Eriksen, with Tottenham reportedly sending emissaries to Lisbon to hold talks over the 24-year-old. The fact that Fernandes has admitted his desire to play in the Premier League holds Spurs in a strong position, seeing as they can also offer them Champions League football, something Manchester United cannot.

But, as it now turns out, the Red Devils are on the cusp of landing the player. Nicolo Schira has claimed that the agreement is in place between Manchester United and Sporting over a £70 million move for Fernandes to make his way to Old Trafford. United also have total agreement with the midfielder over personal terms.

The only thing that remains for the move to be completed is the Portugal Super Cup, which is scheduled to be played on Sunday. So, in all likelihood, it looks like the move will be over the line before next week’s deadline, with Fernandes set to join Manchester United in a £70 million deal. As for Tottenham, they must turn their attention elsewhere to land a replacement for Eriksen late on.
