PSG have reportedly lowered their asking price for Brazilian superstar and Barcelona transfer target Neymar from €300 million to €180 million.
As per a report from Spanish publication Sport, Barcelona’s pursuit of PSG superstar Neymar has taken a new turn. The French champions have lowered their transfer fee demand for the Brazilian international to €180 million from their initial asking price of €300 million, as they actively look to offload the forward.
Neymar’s future has been a subject of intense transfer speculation all summer. The 27-year-old’s relationship with PSG seems to have broken down beyond repair and he is keen on leaving the French outfit at any cost this summer, with a return to former club Barcelona being his top priority.
Barcelona too, are interested in re-signing the Brazilian, who had a spectacular four-year stint at Camp Nou between 2013 and 2017. However, given the strained relationship between the two clubs, negotiations haven’t been going all too smoothly. But, that could be set to change now as PSG have dropped their asking price for their superstar from €300 million to €180 million.
Barcelona are trying to sign Neymar in a player plus cash deal and are willing to offer either of Philippe Coutinho or Ousmane Dembele to PSG as part of the transfer. The French champions though, are averse to such an arrangement and want a cash-only deal for the 27-year-old as that would put them in line with FFP regulations and allow to sign two top-class players of their choice.
Barcelona have already spent heavily on signing Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid this summer and another huge outlay for Neymar would likely require them to offload some of the players on their books currently. Recent reports have claimed that Dembele could be sold before the end of the season, which would free up funds and a place in the squad for Neymar’s return.
Neymar joined PSG from Barcelona two years ago for a world-record €222 million as he sought to emerge out of the shadows of Lionel Messi. However, things have hardly worked out as the two parties would have intended when the deal was completed.
A series of injury and disciplinary issues have left PSG frustrated and wanting to sever ties with the Brazilian. Neymar has hinted towards a return to Barcelona with his recent social media activity, but it remains to be seen if the deal actually sees the light of the day before the transfer window shuts.
