Arsenal have reportedly reopened talks with Celtic over a £25 million deal for priority defensive target Kieran Tierney.
According to a report by The Scottish Sun, Arsenal have not given up on their hopes of signing Kieran Tierney in this summer’s transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights have thus, rekindled their discussions with Celtic over a possible £25 million move for the Scottish left-back.
Tierney has grown leaps and bounds since breaking into the Celtic first-team setup as a 17-year-old. Now 22, the player is already a pivotal figure for the Scottish champions and has over 150 outings under his belt for the club. At the same time, he is also a full fledged member of his national setup.
In the mould of a modern full-back, Tierney is more than a handful in the final third, but is also a solid defender. His exploits have attracted a number of club in recent years and this summer, it has been Arsenal, who have been hot on the heels of the Scottish international.
Unai Emery already has Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac at his disposal for the left-back slot. But, of late, Monreal has been largely utilised as a centre-back, while Kolasinac has been an unreliable figure for Arsenal during his time at Emirates.
As a result, a deal for Tierney makes sense for the Gunners to pursue. But, Arsenal have already seen their second offer for the 22-year-old being rejected by Celtic, who prefer their £25 million valuation to be met upfront instead of the addition of what they term to be unrealistic clauses and structured payments.
Arsenal though, are refusing to shell the figure out in whole, which is a concern for the club at a time when Celtic are confident of keeping hold of their star player. The fact that Tierney still has four years left on his deal at Celtic Park only puts the Bhoys in a stronger position.
But, the report suggests that the North Londoners have not given up on their pursuit of the Scot. To that end, Arsenal have reopened talks with Celtic and are confident that their third offer will finally enable them to reach an agreement with the Scottish champions.
Not long remains before the summer transfer window slams shut in England. Arsenal thus, need to continue the momentum they have built this week by signing two players and accelerate their pursuit of Tierney to finally land him in a £25 million deal.
