Manchester United have reportedly finalised an £80 million deal to sign English international Harry Maguire from Leicester City.
According to Dean Jones of Bleacher Report, Manchester United are edging closer to securing the services of Harry Maguire. The Red Devils have reached an agreement with Leicester City over an £80 million deal for the English international, who will become their third signing this summer.
United finally agreeing terms on the £80m Maguire deal.
Mad amount of money to spend on him and Wan-Bissaka this summer but also very necessary— Dean Jones (@DeanJonesBR) July 21, 2019
Harry Maguire has been on a constantly upward trajectory ever since he enjoyed his breakthrough Premier League campaign in 2016-17. Hull City might have gone down to the Championship that season, but their Player of the Year had big things in store for him as he followed it up with another strong campaign, this time finishing as Leicester City’s Player of the Year in 2017-18.
Following a solid World Cup campaign last summer, the 26-year-old has appeared on the radars of some of the best clubs in England. Among these, Manchester United have been hot in pursuit of the English international for well over a year now.
At the end of the 2017-18 season, which saw David de Gea win the Golden Glove, Manchester United ought to have taken steps to solidify their defence further. But, Jose Mourinho’s suggestions were not paid heed to and subsequently, the Portuguese was vindicated before he was dismissed by the club towards the end of 2018.
With Victor Lindelof the only centre-back who has proven himself to be worthy enough of being a regular, the need to sign a central defender this summer has been imperative. As a result, for a second successive summer, Manchester United are tailing Maguire, although this time, they appear to be confident of signing him.
For a while, it had looked like Leicester City’s valuation of the player would hamper any chances of a deal being materialised. Indeed, the Foxes’ position is admittedly strong, especially with Brendan Rodgers recently asserting that the former Premier League champions do not need to sell the Maguire.
Manchester United, on the other hand, are in an urgent state to sign a centre-back, which only adds to the price tag. Nevertheless, recent reports have pointed towards the Red Devils being on the verge of signing the English international in an £80 million deal. And, Dean Jones seems to corroborate those claims.
The Bleacher Report journalist has suggested that Manchester United have reached an agreement with Leicester over the said £80 million deal. And, The Independent provide further clarification over the terms of this agreement, with £70 million being the base fee and £10 million the add-ons.
With several reports pointing towards the finalisation of the transfer being imminent, it looks like Harry Maguire is inching closer towards becoming a Manchester United player, with the English international set to become the Red Devils’ third summer signing in an £80 million deal.
