Manchester United have reportedly made a £50 million offer to Sporting Lisbon for Bruno Fernandes, who they have offered a £100,000 per week deal.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Manchester United seem to have taken a decisive step in their bid to land Bruno Fernandes in this summer’s transfer window. In addition to tabling a £50 million bid to Sporting Lisbon, the Premier League heavyweights have also offered a £100,000-a-week deal to the Portuguese international.

Bruno Fernandes was in the minority among Sporting Lisbon superstars when he decided to remain at the club last summer in the wake of the infamous training ground incident. But, his decision was vindicated in the form of personal achievements as he was named the club captain at the onset of the 2018-19 season.

The added responsibility brought the best out of him as the Portuguese international recorded a splendid return of 32 goals and 18 assists in 53 appearances. His performances have piqued the interest of a number of clubs, with Manchester United, in particular, confident of signing him.

The Red Devils are in a precarious situation, especially when it comes to their midfield department. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already lost the services of Ander Herrera, while the future of Paul Pogba remains uncertain, although Manchester United are reportedly eager to tie him down to a bumper new deal.

But, the report suggests that Manchester United aim to sign Fernandes irrespective of whether Pogba stays or leaves. Indeed, if the 24-year-old ends up making his way to Old Trafford, Solskjaer would have an added creative element that can support Pogba in the middle of the park.

Additionally, his goalscoring prowess ought to come in handy for a side that struggled to consistently find the back of the net last term. And, Manchester United now appear set to launch the offensive for the Portuguese international.

The report confirms recent suggestions pointing towards the formulation of a £50 million bid. The Daily Mirror, meanwhile, also add that Manchester United are ready to hand the Portuguese midfielder a £100,000-a-week deal.

The £50 million offer though, falls short of Sporting Lisbon’s £70 million price tag and it will be interesting to see if the two clubs reach a compromise. As for the player, it remains to be seen if he accepts the £100,000-a-week contract in order to finally complete a long awaited move to Manchester United.
